Fortune Favors The Bald: What Your Bald Head Says About You To Others May Surprise You

When you start to lose your hair it feels like the world is ending—no really, it does. But soon, (if your head isn’t shaped from the monster on Goonies) you learn to live with it and hopefully, you learn to own it— love it even. Sure, who wouldn’t want Jalen Rose’s hairline, or Zac Efron’s head of hair? A recent study done by a balding college professor produced some pretty interesting findings about how bald men are perceived by society.  And It may surprise you to find out that your bald head could be working in your favor.

Shave it, don’t save it

The only person who can get away with holding onto his hairline for dear life is Lebron James, and even he gets killed for it. So, in short—shave your head. At least that’s what a recent study tells us. The study suggests that men who take the proactive step of shaving their head appear tougher and more powerful than those that cling to their balding heads of hair. The studies also showed that men with thinning hairlines were rated as being less masculine than those who simply cut if off. They come across as more honest—exuding dominance, authority and control. (starting to feel it a little more now, huh?)

It takes confidence to rock a bald head

It takes courage to ignore the value society places on a good head of hair.  And it takes a man with real confidence to get rid of his hair altogether. According to a recent study – men with shaved heads are also seen as 13% stronger, taller and having greater leadership potential than guys with a full head or thinning hair. Interesting. That’s why guys like Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Statham get the tough action hero roles.

Men with bald heads are seen as less attractive and older

Now the bad news. Results from this study also showed that although a shaved head had its advantages – men were rated as less attractive and nearly four years older than guys with full heads of hair. What a man gains in masculinity by shaving his full head of hair will be offset to some degree by his diminished attractiveness. The key here is to take good care of yourself.  Eat good, exercise regularly—grow a beard even. And if nothing else—own it! Confidence will supersede a tight fade and a good edge-up anyday.
