The Basics of Caring for Your Hair

Don’t sleep on your hair care routine. The ladies might spend a lot of time in front of the mirror and we’re not suggesting you take on the fairer sex’s habits but there’s a thing or two we can learn from them when it comes to putting a little extra grooming time in. Rubbing your bar soap across your head while in the shower does not a good hair routine make. Are you washing too much or not enough? Are you conditioning? Hair care matters for men too. Here are a few hair care basics to help get you on track. Master these first and then move on to adjusting your routine to create one that’s perfect for you.

Cleanse your hair

Wash your hair, but take care not to overwash. Washing your hair everyday will strip it of nutrients and natural oils, leaving it high and dry. Shampooing is essential to remove product buildup, sweat, and any dirt that may accumulate.

Condition

Whenever you shampoo, immediately follow up with conditioner. Conditioner restores the oils you stripped away with shampooing. Try the Scotch Porter Nourish & Repair Hair Conditioner, it’s formulated to leave hair feeling soft and looking shiny.

Moisturize

After washing and conditioning, and in between washes, be sure to maintain moisture in your hair. Go for a product that will condition and moisturize, like the Scotch Porter Hair Balm. Hair balm, much like leave-in-conditioner should be applied while the hair is still damp, and prior to styling.

Pay attention to your scalp. A healthy scalp means a healthy head of hair. By washing, conditioning, and focusing on moisturizing, you’ll be able to maintain a healthy scalp, ensuring healthy hair growth. One final tip: learn to be gentle. Stepping out of the shower and rubbing a large bath towel vigorously through your hair does more damage than good. Not only will it completely dry your hair, but it will also snag your hair, leading to unwanted split ends. Simple enough?

Consistently wash, condition and moisturize your hair and there will be a noticeable difference. Using quality products (try the full Scotch Porter Hair Collection) will make an even greater difference.
