The Best #BeardGoals In Music

(Photo: Drake Instagram @champagnepapi)

While it hasn’t yet been scientifically proven, there is something to be said about the high quality of music that comes from an artist once they grow a beard. We can liken this to actors in between films, when they’ve grown out their facial hair and get into the “creative zone” (beard and all), only to nail that next role once they hit the big screen again. After all, look what it did for Leo DiCaprio, who finally won his first Oscar? So you see, beards can hold all of the creative strength a gent needs to take his craft to the next level. That’s why we’ve selected some artists who have achieved a respectable level of #BeardGoals. Now, check it: these beards aren’t all gigantic, nor are they all perfectly tapered and trimmed. They’re just…epic, in their own respective rights. So check out the ones we’ve pegged as the best, from artists who churn out music we can rock with.

Tech N9ne

On the way to our 1st STRANGE MUSIC SHOWCASE! The word for tonight, HUMONGOUS!

Tech N9ne is one of those artists who has created a movement that transcends anything a major label could ever provide. His Strange Music empire houses a significant roster of artists, with Tech as the flagship act of the bunch. But let’s focus on this beard right here. It’s short and to the point. Like, look, I’m Tech N9ne and I don’t have time, but my beard just needs enough to prove I’m the best at what I do and still be unique. Mission accomplished, sir.

Joe Budden

Ok Houston… Showtime.

Joe Budden is one of those guys whose beard always looks like a 5 o’clock shadow in the midst of a lunar eclipse. It’s just everywhere, but really always somewhere. When you wake up after a few days of not shaving, and your beard is just getting its birth certificate, Budden comes through with an entire face covered like he’s been stranded at sea. It’s an art, really: a testament to his ability to be widespread in music, podcasting, and television. His beard knows what’s up and so do we.

Rick Ross

There was a time not too long ago when Rick Ross’ beard was the only one popping in music. Sure, others have come before him (and others have surely followed), but the Bawse’s facial hair was really the accessory to his whole ensemble. The Maybach Music Group mogul just oozed money, and his beard alone looked like it could net half a mill. That’s a valuable skill set to have, especially when his beard has been living in Miami heat, but always looks on point.

Stalley

Eyes always on the prize.

Oh you wanna talk epic beards? Let’s talk epic beards. Stalley is an epic beard. Not only is he part of Rick Ross’ MMG empire, but the Ohio rapper is that dude whose beard arguably knocked his boss’ out of the competition. No disrespect of course, but come on. Not to mention, Stalley is one hell of a lyricist too.

Action Bronson

When #ChefGoals and #BeardGoals collide, you get Action Bronson. The Queens native not only knocks out bars in his music, but also is a respected culinary master with his own Vice series. The most impressive part of Bam Bam’s C.V. is that with all that gourmet food he eats, he never seems to get any of it stuck in his beard. How do you do that, man?

Questlove

Another Victory!!! Year 10 over of the #RootsJamSession s/o to @beatsbydre #BeatsxRootsJam for the support!!

While the leader of The Roots’ ‘fro was getting all of the attention, his beard wasn’t receiving its proper recognition. We here at Scotch Porter are saluting your beard, Mr. Thompson. Your hair is equally legendary, but the ability to maintain both equally has not gone unnoticed. We commend your efforts.

Freeway

Goodmorning!

The leader of the “Free” world, Roc-A-Fella alum Freeway has always been known for his epic beard. Jay Z even referenced it on a track (“What We Do”), and it’s been a part of Freeway’s history even longer than his Roc chain. The legendary rapper and de facto leader of the #BeardGang has made his beard his signature stamp. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Jakk Frost

One of Freeway’s right hand men and a prolific rapper in the Philly Hip-Hop movement, Jakk Frost has made his way as one of the faces of the #BeardGang who has also turned his notoriety into an empire. A chef, musician, and clothing designer, just hit up Frost’s IG account to witness everything he’s doing. You may want to grab a shirt or two while you’re at it.

Drake

Everything changed once Drake grew his beard. His music got better, he cared about fitness, he even won a major rap beef. So if anyone tells you that a beard might not be the best career move, you show them the timeline of events in Aubrey “Drake” Graham’s life following his facial hair and you will shut them right up. He even got to rub up on Rihanna in her “Work” video with his beard, when we were all certain that he was being perpetually friend zoned. You see? Progress.

The Game

Enjoy your life. Fuck anything in the way.

A photo posted by The Game (@losangelesconfidential) on

Game is another artist who began to take his beard growth seriously and wonderful things happened. He delivered one of the greatest albums of his career last year (The Documentary 2 / 2.5), has traveled the world, created a massive health and fitness movement, social activism, and just boasts an incredible life. We’re not saying his beard was responsible for all of this BUT just check out when the good luck started booming for Jayceon Taylor and you’ll see it was right around the time he stopped shaving.
